Many people ask how far I will go to attend home births. If you have done any research relating to home birth in the tristate area you know how limited the options are. I have decided to accept clients within an hour's radius of Henderson, KY who live in or plan to birth in Kentucky or Indiana. I landed on this specific distance because I feel like it covers a majority of the areas in demand and that's what feels comfortable to me.
Labor is unpredictable and you just never know how much time you will have to get where you're going.
No one, including myself, wants to be worried their midwife isn't going to make it to their birth.
Some factors I also have to consider are the time it takes to make sure all the supplies are in the vehicle, giving my birth assistants a heads up and time to get themselves there, and potentially the time it takes to get my kids to a sitter or make other arrangements.
